New buyers drawn to urban neighborhoods

Othello Station is the final phase of NewHolly, the first new neighborhood in 50 years created by the redevelopment of the former Holly Park neighborhood.

Saturday, July 16, 2005

SEATTLE | Due to record sales and high buyer demand, the selection of homes available at Othello Station, in the heart of Seattle’s Beacon Hill neighborhood, has quickly narrowed.

“The number of visitors to this community has been strong and home shoppers are finding a lot to like about Othello Station,” reports Polygon Northwest sales manager, Christine Woodcock. “For starters, the location, just 15 minutes to downtown Seattle, is appealing. Many of our buyers work in the city and don’t want to be forced to live far out of the city because of limited in-city been and home selection, and city prices have been skyrocketing.”

Located on the LINK Light Rail line currently under construction along Martin Luther King, Jr. Way, Othello Station is the final phase of NewHolly, the first new neighborhood in 50 years created by the redevelopment of the former Holly Park neighborhood. The master planned community features frontporch homes on walkable neighborhood streets with an emphasis on parks, trails and playgrounds. The community features a mix of homes for rent, homes for sale, and neighborhood businesses and services including a branch of the Seattle Public Library and South Seattle Community College. Also featured are a community center, medical and dental center and market garden, where local urban farmers grow and market fresh produce. Adjacent to Othello Station and currently under construction is the Chief Sealth Trail, an off-road walking and biking trail linking Beacon Hill and the International District with all of Southeast Seattle.

Homebuilders Bennett- Sherman and Polygon Northwest have created these unique homes that appeal to a true urban homebuyer, and Polygon is now showing single-family homes in one of its final neighborhood releases that are priced from $306,990.

Additionally, pre-selling is underway on the highly sought-after townhome series. With construction now in full swing, prospective homebuyers have the opportunity to see firsthand the premium locations that offer outstanding views while maintaining an affordable price. Polygon’s collection of model homes is open daily.

“Bennett-Sherman has been overwhelmed by the response to their recent release of single-family homes. Right now our prices begin at $444,800 for a three-story home that has more than 2,500 sq. ft. with two-car garage. That kind of value is increasingly difficult to find in the city,” notes Windermere/Mt. Baker agent Darryl Smith, whose team represents Bennett- Sherman. “We have customers who come from West Seattle, North Seattle and far flung suburbs, who are always pleasantly surprised when they find not only new homes, but a whole planned community in the heart of the city.” The Bennett-Sherman model home is open Thursdays through Mondays.

For the past 10 years, more and more people have been discovering the area around Othello Station as one of Seattle’s great urban treasures. The neighborhood’s diversity of ages, ethnicities and lifestyles creates a vibrant and rich community.

“I live in the neighborhood and love it here,” says Smith. “It’s been fun watching new homeowners discover its charm.”
